The Associates Federal Credit Union is committed to providing its members with competitive products and services to meet their financial needs and help them reach their financial goals. Below we will describe the credit union's Privacy Policy and practices concerning the personal information we collect and disclose about our members. Also included is information about the parties who receive personal and sometimes nonpublic information from us as we conduct the business of the credit union. Information We Collect About Members

We collect nonpublic personal information about members from the following sources:

  • Application Information: Information we receive from members on applications and other forms (for example, name, address, social security number, employment, financial status, credit history, assets and income). We retain personal information we receive from you on an application you provide for membership, deposit account, EFT services, loans, or other services;
  • Your Transactions: Information about member transactions with us; including your account balance, payment history, parties to transactions, credit or other information about our communication with you, your requests and our responses.
  • Credit Reports: Information we receive from a consumer reporting agency (for example, your credit worthiness and credit history). When we evaluate your application for an account or service, we receive a credit report about you from a consumer-reporting agency. We retain the personal history information about you and we may use it to evaluate future account services;
  • Customer Identification Program: Information obtained when verifying the information you provide on an application or other forms (this may be obtained from your current or past employers, outside Customer Identification sources or from other institutions where you conduct financial transactions); and
  • Data Providers: Information we may obtain from data providers to develop competitive marketing programs. Other general information we obtain about you that is not assembled for the purpose of determining your eligibility for credit, employment, or other product or services such as demographic information.

Information We Disclose

In order to conduct our operations, including servicing your account or processing transactions, we need to share information with our service providers, including data processing companies, loan service providers, insurance companies, collection agencies and credit reporting companies. These service providers act on our behalf and have agreed to keep member information confidential. We may disclose all of the information we collect, as described above, as permitted by law and in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

We do not disclose any nonpublic personal information about our members and former members to anyone, except as permitted by law.

Other Parties Who Receive Information from Us

We may disclose nonpublic personal information about members to the following types of third parties:

  • Financial services providers such as insurance companies, mortgage service companies, and securities broker-dealers
  • Non-financial companies, such as consumer reporting agencies, data processors, check/share draft printers, financial statement publishers, plastic card processors, and government agencies
  • We may share any member information of yours in response to a lawful request issues by a government agency, or regulatory authority or as permitted by law in order to administer an account. We may also share our experience information about you with credit bureaus, governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, which affords you the right to verify that your credit bureau reports are accurate.

Disclosure of Information to Parties That Provide Services to Us

In order that we may provide members competitive products and services, we may disclose all of the information we collect, as described above, to companies that perform marketing or other services on our behalf to other financial service providers with whom we have joint marketing agreements. We may also disclose nonpublic personal information about you under circumstances as permitted or required by law. These disclosures typically include information to process transactions on your behalf, conduct our operations, and follow your instructions as you authorize or protect the security of our financial records.

To protect our members' privacy, we only work with companies that agree to maintain strong confidentiality protections and limit the use of information we provide. We do not permit these companies to sell the information we provide to other third parties.

Disclosure of Information About Former Members

Upon termination of membership, the Associates Federal Credit Union will not share information we have collected about members, except as may be permitted or required by law.

Protection of Member Information

The credit union restricts access to nonpublic personal information about members to those employees who need to know that information to provide products or services to the membership. We maintain physical, electronic, or procedural safeguard that complies with federal regulations to guard member nonpublic personal information.

What Members Can Do to Help

We may disclose nonpublic personal information about members to the following types of third parties:

  • Protect your account number(s), card number(s), PIN(s) and passwords(s). Never keep your PIN with your debit or credit cards, which can provide free access to your accounts if your card is lost or stolen.
  • Use caution when disclosing your account number(s), social security number, etc. to other persons. If someone calls you, explains the call is on behalf of the credit union and asks for your account number, you should beware. Official credit union staff will have access to your information and will not need to ask for it.
  • Keep your information current. It is important that we have current information on how to reach you. If we detect potentially fraudulent or unauthorized activity or use of an account, we will attempt to contact you immediately. If your address or phone number changes, please let us know.
